Nuet vs Sense vs Cyril vs AskBobbie: the school letter readers compared

Four UK apps that read school emails, photos and messages into a family calendar. How each gets the letters, what it does with them, what it costs, and the honest gaps in each, including ours.

These four are the same idea done four ways: take the school's letters, emails, photos and messages, find the dates and the money, and put them on a calendar for the family. The differences are in how the letters get in, what happens after, and what you pay. We make the fourth one; our gaps are in the table like everyone else's.

The twelve questions

"Not stated" means the supplier's public material does not say; tell us if we have missed it and we will correct the table.

Where each is strongest

Nuet is the most automatic: connect the inbox and it handles everything the school ever sends, with no forwarding. If you are on an iPhone, use Gmail or Outlook, and are happy for the app to read the whole inbox, it is the least effort.

Sense is the one that reads the school apps' own notifications, which catches things that never come by email, like a ClassDojo caption. Its blog on UK family apps is genuinely useful whichever you choose.

Cyril is the newest, with every English state school listed at sign-up and a clear per-child action list. It launched in August 2026; expect it to move fast.

AskBobbie is the one with WhatsApp: photos and voice notes from the phone in your hand, a child's phone linked without an account, and the round-up on WhatsApp. It is also the one that does the rest of the house (dinners, shopping, to-dos) and answers questions in words. It asks you to forward rather than reading your inbox, which we think is the right trade for a family's mail, and it is the one that is free right now.

Where each is weakest

Nuet: iPhone only, and reading the whole inbox is more access than some families want to give.

Sense: depends on the notifications arriving on the phone, so a muted app is a missed letter.

Cyril: new, so fewer integrations and less track record; forwarding only.

AskBobbie: no app-store listing (it installs from the browser, which surprises some people); forwarding rather than inbox reading; WhatsApp-first messages only inside WhatsApp's 24-hour window.

Choosing

Try two. All four have trials or are free. Forward the same three letters to each and see which reads them best and which you would actually open at 3:30pm in the car park. Then read each one's privacy notice with these questions beside you.

Questions people ask

Which one reads my inbox?
Nuet connects to your Gmail or Outlook and reads it. Sense reads the notifications from the school apps on your phone. Cyril and AskBobbie take what you forward or send. Reading the inbox is more convenient; forwarding gives the app only the school. Know which you are choosing.
Which works on Android?
Sense and Cyril have Android apps. AskBobbie installs from the browser on Android and iPhone. Nuet is iPhone only.
Are these safe with my children's information?
Each publishes a privacy notice; read the section on AI processors and training. The questions to ask are in our piece on AI for family admin. AskBobbie's answers: Anthropic under a no-training contract, raw letters deleted at thirty days, one-button deletion.
