Seesaw for parents

Connecting to your child's Seesaw journal, adding a second family member, replying to work, and where the class announcements sit.

Seesaw is a digital portfolio: children post their work, teachers comment, families see it. Announcements from the class sit in the same feed, which is where the "wear yellow on Friday" gets lost under a video of a bean.

Connecting

The teacher sends a family invite, by QR code on paper or by email. Open the Seesaw Family app (not the class app), scan or enter the code, and your child's journal appears. To add a second parent or a grandparent, open the child's profile and Invite family members.

What you will see

  • Journal: your child's posts, with the teacher's comments. You can like and comment.
  • Announcements: from the teacher to the class. This is where the dates are.
  • Messages: to you directly, where the school has turned it on.

Getting the announcements out

Seesaw emails a notification for announcements and posts if email notifications are on (your profile, Notifications). Point that email at your Bobbie address or a forwarding rule, and announcements become calendar entries. See giving the school your address.

Questions people ask

Is Seesaw the same as ClassDojo?
They overlap. Seesaw is built around the child's work journal; ClassDojo around class stories and points. Some schools use one, some the other, a few both. The notices problem is identical: important things sit in a feed with the fun things.
Can I download my child's journal?
Yes, at the end of the year, as a zip of the posts. The school usually tells you when; ask if they do not.
